Jenny, AKAM’s Vice President of Reporting and Analytics has received NYREJ’s Ones to Watch – Rising Star recognition.
In her role, which is new to AKAM, Romano is leading the development of a centralized data system for the company. AKAM struggled with data siloed across departments, which hindered accessibility and efficiency. Over the course of two years, Romano led her team to create a unified system that integrates information across the organization.
Building this system from scratch was challenging and soemthing outside Romano’s prior experience in retail analytics. In order to execute the task at hand, she needed to employ on-the-spot learning, extensive testing, collaboration, and exploration. The initiative, now approaching rollout, represents a journey from idea to execution and has significantly transformed how AKAM operates.
“Jenny Romano is a rising star because she has consistently demonstrated exceptional initiative, adaptability, and leadership in an area beyond her initial role and prior experience. Coming from a background in corporate retail analytics and planning, Jenny stepped into a property management environment and took on the significant challenge of building a company-wide data centralization system from the ground up – a system that AKAM had never had before. The result of her and her team’s efforts will make employees’ work easier and more efficient.” — Matthew Pirozzi, Chief Financial Officer, AKAM.
When asked about her advice for newcomers to the field of data analytics, Romano says:
‘Stay open to learning, listening and trying things in new and unfamiliar ways. When you first start out in your career, it can be easy to get stuck on doing things ‘the right way’ or sticking closely to how you were taught. The reality is that success in data analytics comes from being flexible, curious, and willing to experiment. You have to be comfortable sitting with numbers, asking questions, and making sense of info. Let your curiosity guide you, and don’t be afraid to try, fail, and try again. The confidence and skill will follow.
Join us in congratulating Jenny on this exciting recognition!
